True triumph in trouble comes not from avoiding hard seasons but from trusting a sovereign God who scatters His people like seed to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. The early church’s darkest day—the persecution that scattered believers from Jerusalem—became the very means by which Christianity spread like wildfire across Judea, Samaria, and beyond, even to Antioch where the mission movement was born. When things are bad, you need faith; when things are good, you need discipline, because the seeds of despair are sown in the best of times. Our worst sins become the working tools of the Holy Spirit, producing a poverty of spirit that drives us to the kingdom, and our suffering for Christ is never wasted—it is the price of a higher goal than our own comfort.
